Sick Convict Cichlid dont know whats wrong

Question
I have a male cichlid who has his scales missing on his back close to the top fins.  I do not know what it is and how to treat it.  His top fins have a whitetish color they are not their normal color. I have a picture if you would like to see it.

 Are there other fish in the tank?  It sounds like another fish attacked that fish.  Is that possible?
