fish pregnacy time

I have a female swordtail that I believe is pregnant.  She is in a breeder box and I was just wondering how long do fish of this size normally stay pregnant until they have the babies.  Thanks.

Hello Angela,
The period in which swortails (also known as livebearers) fry grow in them is about 1 month to 45 days. So unless you know how far along she is i would get her her own little breeding tank, puting her in a fish net too early can put her into shock, so if you do know how far along she is then put her in the net about 1 week before she is do. Otherwise get her her own take if you dont them she will eat her fry. Eather way she will eat some. Hope This Helps and Happy Fish Keeping!
