Golden Orf with red gill

Question
We just noticed one of our 3 year old golden orfs has a red gill.  His body does seem to be "speckled".  He is active and eating - lives in a 4.000 gallon pond with large koi and 2 other orfs. What is happening to him?  Do you think he may need to be checked out by a fish vet?

Answer
Alan, Just to let you know your Orf can live for 50 yrs or lots more. Very kool pond fish. If noone else seems to be infected in this pond, I think if you want to keep him you might want to get him checked by a vet. They are very susceptible to water changes and environmental changes. So maybe it will work itself out, but I would have my pond water tested for water conditions, and go from there maybe you just need to drain some water and replace it, but in a pond that big I don't think that is what it is.We have an extremely good pond expert on this site. He is under pond and water gardening....his name is Robyn Rhudy.... You may want to take your question to him. He is an expert on ponds and the type of problem you have.  Good Luck,Tina
