Fish Compatability

Question
Hello Richard
I hope you can help.

In a couple of weeks time I will be given a Interpet Fishbox 48 litre for my birthday. I'm very excited at properly starting the tropical fish hobby and plan to set up my tank VERY slowly over a number of weeks/months, introducing a small number of fish at a time.

My problem is though which fish are the more compatible?

I currently have a chilled filtered tank with 2 danio (1 pearl, 1 zebra) and they will move to the new tank once it has been set up for a week or so. I'd like to increase my danio numbers to 4 once my tank is more established, but then after that I was unsure what were the more compatible to go with them? I've read loads and considered cherry barbs, mollies, platy's and pygmy or panda corydoras..

Ultimately, 12 months on I would like to have a little community but would really like to select the more compatible breeds with the danio, and each other!

I would be very greatful for any advice and pointers you can give me from your own experience.

Thank you

Mand

Answer
Hi Amanda

There are many fish you can keep with both Pearl and Zebra Danios. However, in the 48L, you won't be able to put many in with them.

Danios are schoolers and best in groups of 4-6. Mollies, Platys, Cherry Barbs and Corys will all work with Danios. Also Tiger Barbs, Swordtails, Gouramis and most Tetras will be great with Danios. Most Danios are hyperactive so you'll want to avoid slow moving fish like Angels etc. Remember in the 48L, you'd only have enough room for about 10 of these fish.

Hope this helps you, good luck and Happy Birthday!

Richard
