hi, a friend of mine recently gave me a fish tank and some small fish I am not sure what kind they are and I was wondering if it is normal for a fish to pick a spot to float it, they are swimming but going back to the same spot in the tank. One just hangs around where the waters come into and out of the tank rarely going else where but, they seem to be healthy. thank you.

Hi Teresa,

Hanging like that is from lack of oxygen caused by dirty water.  It is a sure sign your filtration is failing, and that you have possibly got too many fish.

Therefore I have more questions before I answer further.

How often do you do water changes?

What kind of filter is it?

What size tank is it?

How many fish are in it?

How big are they?

Can you send me a photo?
