Question
How do I know that my neons have stress? Is it the dark blue on them? Because I have 2 light blue neons and 1 dark blue neon tetra. Is there away that I know that fish have stress?

Answer
Hi Justin;

Fish color fades and brightens depending on a lot of different things. Sometimes it's environmental, sometimes it has to do with the other fish, sometimes it's illness. Fish color can even change with the times of the day, brightness of light, or the area of the tank they tend to hang out can cause one or more to look brighter or lighter too.

Or, it is indeed stressed out. Stress isn't really like a disease that fish just "have" though. It's something they experience due to undesirable conditions of their environment, behavior of other fish, old age, or something with their health. If you could tell me more about your tank such as it's size, how long it's been set up, the water temperature, the filtration type, how many fish you have, the pH, ammonia and nitrite readings, how often you change water and clean the filter, etc, I might be able to tell you if everything is okay for them to be healthy and the likelihood of stress.
