QuestionI am a new fish owner for 4 months I have guppies, platys and tetras. I have 3 female platys that look to be bloated or pregnant for 3 months. If find this really odd, I checked the net to see what I can find could it be Dropsy or Malawi Bloat?
AnswerHi,
Malawi bloat is a problems only malawain cichlids are faced with, and dropsy is incredibly rare, and normally found in gouramis. Both of these were good guesses though. Keep up the research.
I think your plates are pregnan. They can remain pregnant their whole lives after sexual maturity, even though a brood cycle lasts only a month. Not only can they store sperm for later use, but they can have multiple broods at once.
