Breeding guppies... Convincing parents!!!

Question
Hi,
I really want to breed guppies, but I need more info. When I asked my mom... only once if I can HAVE guppies she said no more pets. I don't think fish count as pets because pets need more attenshon then a feeding everyday... I have had guppies but they died tragicly dew to a clorine problem. I currently have two mollies and I believe they are male and female. One is orange one is silver. But I think guppies or way more pretty. Anyway I have a extra 10 gallon tank and food from the mollies. I dont't want it to seem like a accident because I kno they eat their babies. Any ideas on convincing my parents? And which is better to buy them from PetSmart or Petco? I'm thinking petsmart because it's way cheaper but health matters too.

Answer
Emma,
Fish are pets because they need a lot more than just being fed everyday. The tank has to be cycled and then after the fish are put in, weekly tank maintenance is a must. You also need to put a water conditioner in the water to remove the chlorine from your tap water. Breeding fish is not only a great experience, but it is very time consuming and can be expensive. If you want the fry (babies) to live you either have to have a lot of plants in the tank, or a breeding tank. Any adult fish in the tank will eat every fry it can find. As for convincing parent to tell you have fish, I can not help with that one, sorry. Either store it ok, just make sure you look at the fish and only pick ones that look healthy.
