Question
Hello!  I recently perchased two six-month budgies from a pet store near by and people have told me that it is imposible to tame budgies of their age.  is this true?  because i perchased my budgies at different times, the oldest one is slightly more tamed then the new one.  The two budgies do not fight
and are great companions.  Are they compatible for breeding if I perchased a nesting box?  Any help is much apreciated.

Answer
hello maggie! When budgies are not handled for a while they become timid, (such as in a petstore)but when at home with attention it is deffinetly not impossible for your new keet to become tame. The keet may never be as loving as a conure baby but if treated with sensitivity, they may get accustomed to having people around, and overcome their worst fear of them. The degree of sucess depends on your patience and persistence and the temperment of your paticular bird. The more time you spend with your bird, the faster it will become tame. An older bird will be more tame because it is used to having you around and hearing your voice. Talk to your new bird softly, sometimes buying a bird tape of whistles or sounds to play while your gone will help relax the bird (as well as teach them!) Offer the keet millet spray and other tasty treats like grass, parsely, or lettuce. My first budgies was really scared and nervous but after a few years (he was an older bird) he now lands on my head and trusts me enough to grab a bit of something tasty from my hand. Breeding: a cock will have a blue cere and the hen will have a brown cere. 6th months is a little young to tell what sex the bird is. luck might be the best option! Purchasing a nesting box is the first step. If they start to feed eachother (it may take a while!) then they are more than compatible. But try it out! buy a box and see what happens! :D
