Question
Hi there, I have a female splendid who has just been attacked by a newly purchased male. He has attacked her right eye. It is bleeding and looks watery. I have put her in a cage inside. But I'm not sure whether to put something on her eye or let it heal. Or whether it will heal or not?? Do you think she will go blind in that eye?? If so, will she survive out in an aviary?? Please help.  Thanks, Laura

Answer
Hi Laura,

I cannot answer these questions for you... you need to get this bird to a vet ASAP!! Only a vet will be able to determine if the eye can be saved, whether it will be able to heal or not (and the only way for it to heal is to get treated by an avian vet), etc. To prevent secondary infections or complications- the vet should also put the bird on antibiotics and possibly pain killers as well.

You can try calling different emergency vets to find out if any of their vets will see a bird. Otherwise, you can try searching for avian vets in your area on these websites:

and

Good Luck- I hope you can get her to a vet soon enough, so that she has a chance at a full recovery.
