Question
I recently acquired a 5yr. old Stud Quarter Horse.  My question to you is.. What is the safest way to keep my horse in his pasture without the use of to much barbed wire?  I ask this because he has started to walk his chest into the fences as a way of testing them (I guess).  I don't want him castrated so I am looking for advice on a way to keep him safe and secure.  When he does go to the neighbors house to be with their mare, he does not try to get through their fence. He just stands there beside her. Thank you for any input.

Answer
Hi Christi, I prefer no-climb hog wire fence with a board top and electric tape along the top, if you cannot afford all board fence with the electric tape.  Barbed wire is just much to dangerous. He is young, but certainly mature enough to breed. Your neighbor's mares may not be in heat right now, so it is a good time to secure your fencing. If this solution is too expensive for your budget, write back and we can figure out something else. Let me know your thoughts by leaving feedback and do not hesitate to write back anytime. Thank you for writing.  Regards, Susan
