QuestionHi,
I have a yearling colt that has started to bite when I hand feed him. How can I stop him?
Sharon.
AnswerYou never feed a horse any treats or food by hand. Feeding them by hand causes them to think that you are part of the food source rather then the one bringing the food. Whn you bring them a teat, put it in a bucket before you give it to them.
When she bites you, then you have three seconds to punish her for the behavior. Smack him on the neck and yell no at him. Remember, if he bit another herd mate the horse would kick or bit him back.
Good luck.
