Question
Mr Bobby. I was recently given a 2 month old filly. As you know I have followed your work for many years. Faith will not be not be ready to come home for several months. But I was wondering where I needed to start with this little girl? Its been several years since I gentled a horse... Thank you.

Answer
Hi Paula,
I would begin by just being with the filly. Just be around her as much as possible. Touch her all over, where she will stand it, and gain her trust. You might just grab a bucket and a book and sit in the pen with her and read. Just ignore her when your doing it and soon she will start coming up to you. Once you have the halter on and lead rope, just try leading her around the pen. You don't have to yank on the rope, just gently tug it and release when she takes a step. It's the little things that gain the trust. Take baby steps in your training and don't get greedy. If she even shoes that she's trying, be happy with that and praise her by rubbing on her and just being with her. Good luck and let me know how she is doing.
