Question
I'm 14 yrs old and have a 2 yr, 4 month mare. I've ridden for 6 yrs, and have never had a horse. I can't get a saddle on her. she bites it or shifts before I buckle the girth. She is by her self. She treats the bearback pad fine. I don't know what I did wrong

Answer
Hi Alanna, you need to read up on horses so you understand how they think.  This horse is just being a horse.  Horses have to see you as a leader and the top horse in their herd.  You and your horse are a herd of two.  You have to be higher than you your horse.  Read my horsemanship page, horseman tips page and horse history page.  This will give you a better understanding of horses.

After you read these pages if you still don't know what you are doing wrong, write me back.

Good luck,

Rick

Remember by learning the horse and educating yourself, you help the horse.  It is never the horse's fault so never blame the horse, look to yourself for any problems.
