Question
i have a Quarab/Appy gelding that cribs everytime he is angry or impatiant. i have seen many collars and such to correct these problems, but they dont look lik they will work. What do I do?

Answer
Hi Jessica!

I do not believe in putting manmade correction devices on horses for any reason.  I do not think they work and find them cruel.

Vets have long since declared that while cribbing is an unwanted vice, it does not cause colic or really in any way harm a horse's health.

I can think of far worse vices for a horse to have.  Ignore it as best you can, give him no real opportunity to do it (such as a stall with an appealing place to crib)and then...... ignore it some more.

If you truly feel it is affecting his health, have the vet out for an overall check-up and see what they say.  Only a vet can determine this.  Not the barn manager, or the boarder next to you or any B.S. you might see on an Internet horse chat site.

Good luck and remember to always wear an ASTM/SEI approved helmet!
