aluminum bits softer than other bits

Question
hello ma'am, are aluminum bits softer than sweet iron as well as stainless steel bits? which bit mouthpiece would you suggest me for young horses?

Answer
Hello,

Aluminum material is not suitable to use as bits. They are too "soft", and can bend, and people have found that horses do not take well to them. When I was young,  people often used inexpensive aluminum curb bits and horses usually did not perform well with them.

I think stainless steel probably makes the best bit. I like the French link bit with the oval link in the middle. I find horses tolerate these (generally) much better, as the middle link lies flat on the tongue and does not create a nutcracker effect, nor is it sharp like a Dr. Bristol bit.
