Question
I have two horses Lexy and Dusty. they have been together for 4 years. Lexy
and I ride alot and take trips together. My neighbors  complain, the whole time
I am gone Dusty just cries. 2 hours or 2 days, He is Whining the whole time. I
live on a 4 acre ranch, So my neighbors are far away, He is very annoying.
However if he goes on a ride alone, Lexy is hardly bothered. What can I do to
break him of the cry baby stuff. He gets just as much attention as she does,
Yet if I take Lexy just over to the wash rack without him, He cries that whole
time and he can even see us.  It has really gotten out of hand, and I need
Some help.

Answer
Hi Susan!

Unfortunately, I cannot give you training advice on "horse on horse" issues.  How do I explain to Dusty his deep instincts are bothering you?!?

They are a small herd that is always together and this is commonly seen in backyard buddies.  Some horses are just more attached to their herd than others and cannot bear to be parted.

Even if you were to take him to a boarding barn, he would attach himself to a horse there, most likely the one in the stall next to him and he would cry for him too.

If this is the only issue, be thankful and work around it.  I know it can be galling to "give in" to this behaviour but, I am confident he will never stop.

Good Luck and remember to always wear an ASTM/SEI approved helmet!
