training four year old horse.

Question
I have a four your old Arab/tb/welch from the Farnley Farm.  He is an awsome pony.  He was broken at two.  Formal riding training started at three.  He has an awsome disposition and no other issues.  But when riding him in the ring to the left there are points on the rail where he will try to cut into the middle of the ring.  When you try to apply inside leg pressure and a little outside reign he tosses his head up turns his nose to the outside, but tries to cut into the middle of the arena.  I have had a trainer working with him for the last 45 days and but to me, the problem seems to have gotten worse. He is not a really forward mover and takes alot of leg.  He does this at very predictable locations and when you transition into a faster gate.  Any ideas?  Thanks!  Lea Anne

Answer
Lea Anne,

I'm gonna follow what I have in a lot of advice, get this horse checked out by an equine chiropractor.  Sounds like he's out, possibly in multiple places.  He's avoiding using his one side and there's generally a reason for that.  He could probably use some body work too to take care of muscles that have been mis-used as he's compensated with them.  Think you'll find he's a different boy once you get the physical issues resolved.
