Question
please be careful with the info you give out..I have personally owned a horse who was diagnosed an sussesfully treated for emp.. Plz do not tell people there only option is to put down a horse with emp. Cause that is not the case at all. Thanks best wishes

Answer
hi heidi,
Equine morbillivirus pneumonia (EMP) is an acute febrile respiratory infection of horses characterized by fever, increased respiratory and heart rates, respiratory distress, and death.Costly to treat and often difficult to diagnose, EMp is a debilitating disease which effects a horse's coordination and thus, their ability to travel in a consistent manner at high rates of speed. It is an infection of the brain and spinal cord which also causes lameness, weakness and depression in the equine athlete.not many people can afford the cost to cure emp and it does not always work. thankfully you were able to save your horse. please do not judge my knowledge. i have worked for vets and have seen many cases of emp. all in which sadly ended badly. i have stayed up many nights with horses with emp and it is heart breaking to see the end of their lives.
