Nasty 6 month old colt

Question
Hi,

I have a colt that's almost 6 months old.  He is usually friendly but sometimes he is very nasty.  He seems really hyper and tries to bite me.  I've tried hitting him on the nose but he keeps doing it.  I also have lots of bruises and he is really bossy.  If he continues this behaviour, I will not be able to handle him when he gets bigger.  My husband says he is stimulated.  Is 6 months too young for a colt to be stimulated.  I would appreciate any help you can give me.  Right now a professional trainer is not an option.

Answer
Hello Bev! I don't think that you'r colt is old enough to be stimulated. I do believe how ever that he is just trying to play with you. You need to get him to respect your space. Let him know that you are boss for exceletn tips on traning a horse to respect you and to see you as the "alpha" read up on Monty Roberts you can look online or find some of his videos and books he works WONDERS! A colt is more likeley to be pushy and playful than a filly I suggest that you geld him if you would like to keep him this will help to calm him down some. Well hope i have helped you some feel free to let me know if I can be of any more assistance.
