Jockey / saddle weight on Thoroughbreds

Question
Which is better in a race and why? 1. a liter rider with a heavier saddle or 2. a heavier rider with a liter saddle. ( for this question we will say the horse must carry 116 pounds )

Hi Michael

So sorry that I can't answer this question.  I've bet on running horses a time or two -- and actually helped "break" a horse that was a running quarter horse and got it in condition -for a few months (btw - it won its futurity <grin>)
but have no further knowledge of the running horse industry.  We have show horses --- did everything from halter (years ago) to WPleasure - HUS - but have specialized in reining for 20+ years.
