shoes & pour in packing for mild navicular

Question
I am checking on what pour in packing is and if it is good or bad.  We have wedged shoes on our horse and we have also had eggbar shoes on.  One vet and 2 farriers I spoke to recently suggested trying pour in packing.  But my own farrier has not suggested this?  What do you think?

Answer
HELLO LISA...THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION...

Pour in pads are very good and DO GIVE temporary relief of soreness
of the sole and navicular bursae. Why your farrier has not mentioned it to you...not sure. It's been out for a few years now.
I prefer Vettec's Equi-Pak used with a special caulking gun.

It is used and performs best with a "straight-bar shoe" wedged or not.
Fill in the commisures (sides) and back 2/3rds of the frog and heel area. It sets up in 2/3 minutes. The hoof can be set down in 45 sec.
and bear weight. Hard clean surface is best.

Egg-bars give good palmer/posterior support/tendons,ligaments. NOT that good for navicular cases. Very low rate of success.

Also...rocking/rolling the toe of the shoes help GREATLY !!

The Best To You...
