What angle/degree do you shoe TWH?

Question
I have a 12 yr. old TWH mare that I have owned for about 5 years.  6 months ago a friend was keeping her (that raises gaited horses.  Since I have my own pasture now finally (yay)my mare is home and pastured.  I am only shoeing her now on the front since I am in the sandhills area and no longer on rocky terrain. My mare is trying to act trotty and I was wondering if the shoes being only on the front were a possibility and what angle and degree to you shoe TWH that are only trail ridden?

Answer
HELLO CINDY...THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION...

THERE ARE NO "SET" angles for a gaited horse...or any...in my opinion. They SHOULD ALL be
shod/trimmed to their conformation. All things and horses being different.

Unless the weight is real heavy or you are using a toe-weighted shoe in front, I would mention to your farrier if the horse's not striding correctly. It is difficult to say naturally without
looking at the horse, but if one heel is higher than the other or alittle more toe is left on one hoof...any little thing can cause the change. Also...a slight soreness up-above can cause a horse to change "slightly"...just a thought.

Normally, shoes only in the front will NOT cause any problems. I shoe alot of working horses
in the front for protection and comfort while their hind hooves really don't need any
protection or added traction.

ALWAYS great to get your horse home under your care !!

Best to You...
