Question
hi, I have a 5 year old hermans that has always been in a viv and for the last8 months in a tortoise table. He is now getting bored and I want ot put him in the garden. I have a 5ft run with an enclosure at one end. Is it ok to leave him out during the day all the time at this time of year or should I only put him out on very warm sunny days. Does he need any additional heating in the enclosed bit of the run. I do bring him in at about 6 but I am worried that he may get a chill while he is out side on not such sunny days. Any info would be appreciated.
thanks
Karen
P.S. I was going to put some hay or straw in the enclosed bit would this be a good idea ?

Answer
1. Ease him into it- several hours for a few days, getting longer over a couple weeks. Let him get used to the new territory, learn the good basking sites and nap places.

2. A nice draft-free enclosure is usually all they need at night. Insulation is nice for comfort. Monitor the night-time temps in the enclosure- if they drop too low you may want to provide a little extra warmth.

Sounds like a good plan overall- congrats!
