baby red eared slider, sick?

Question
I have a baby red eared slider and i have had him for about 5 months now. He has seemed healthy up until about a week ago. He still eats but when he goes under the water to get the food he starts acting like he is having trouble breathing, like he has the hiccups. and another thing i have noticed is that he isn't growing none. I have 2 of them and got them at the same time, in which they was both the same size. well my other one is about 2 times the size of the one that i think is sick.. Could you possibly tell me whats wrong with him? Im very concerned about him. Thanks

Answer
Hello Kendra,

Is these "hiccups" accompanied by wheezing sounds or mucus? Because if it is, then it might be a possible respiratory infection.
My advice to you is to check basic things like the temperature of the water, the filtration, if the tank is clean and if your turtle is getting the right food. However, if your turtle doesn't improve in it's health, I recommend you to contact a vet.

As for the differences in size, I don't think you have to be that worried. Turtle's grow at different rates and perhaps your smallest turtle is a male, which is supposed to be smaller than the females.

I hope this information might help some, good luck with your turtle!
