Question
Hi,

My red eared slider has this red pimple like thing on her arm and she keeps biting it. I saw another one that was like a dot on her tail while I was cleaning her but, I removed it by using a brush.
She seams really agitated. What should I do?

Answer
Tohid,    This actually is a pimple. It may be caused by an allergic reaction to something or poor water conditions. So, first are you feeding her anything new? If so stop. Don't let her get picky make sure her diet is varied. An easy way to do that is blanch fresh greens (mustard, collard, turnip, even bok choy) I layer it is a dish with some canned albacore tune and calcium powder. I get it almost frozen they cut it into pieces and let it freeze. I put it in a baggy when its done so it doesn't take so much room in my freezer. I call this my turtle lasagna. Its so much easier. I am also going to recommend that you feed her in a separate container than her habitat. Get a dishpan and make sure the water is deep enough so they can swallow it when they eat or they can choke. They usually poop pretty quick after eating then return her to her home. Keeps tank so much cleaner. Now as far as this acne what were going to do is real simple to make sure she doesn't get an infection from chewing on this pimple. Go to your drug store and get betadine solution it is cheap and has antibiotic properties and mix a 4% to water solution (make sure water is always dechlorinated). Soak her for about 20 minutes twice a day for about a week and rinse her well before you return her to her habitat. Make sure the water is deep enough to almost cover her that way it gets into all the crevices. So don't worry this is not a parasite never brush her and make sure her tank is clean all the time. Good Luck, Tina
