QuestionHi i have a russian tortoise almost 3 months old and i am worrying that i am overfeeding him. he hasn't been to a vet yet because he's captive bred, but is there any way i (an amateur) can tell if he's getting fat? When i got him i was told he was "an eating machine," but i'm worried that i may be taking that a little too literally. thanks for your help.
AnswerBasically- give him a daily portion that is about the size of its head (OK, go ahead and pretend you scrunched it down real tight!) Their stomach is about the size of the head- so it is a good guideline.

A healthy tortoise, by the way, weighs about the same as a bag of sand the same size and can totally pull itself into its shell.
