Answer
Hello Julian, there are many things that this bump could be. It could be a calcium defficiency in which case medical attention should be given as soon as possible. Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) is a fatal disease caused by lack of calcium or proper UVB rays. It is treatable so seek a qualified veterinarian. It will start showing up usually in the jaws and limbs first. The bones will become soft, or there maybe be hard bumps or nobs on the bone. The legs and toes can twist or contort backwards upwards and every which way. The jaw will become weak and soft. If any of these symptoms sound like whats going on seek a veterinarian.

It could be an abcsess that will need draining by a vet and antibiotics given.

It could have been as simple as a break in the tail that had healed. Take a look at this link for further information on that:

It could be numerous other things as well. So if you are still unsure I would find a veterinarian who can xray or find out what exactly is wrong as it may need treatment.

Good luck
