Question
QUESTION: Hi Pam, over the last few weeks or more I've been asking a lot of questions regarding my crested gecko. I've spoken to Thea and Tracie, and they've have helped me out a lot. As of now I can't type to Tracie anymore and Thea's on vacation so now you're up! haha. K so my Crested gecko is currently getting over MBD she's doing a lot better then she was and I won't get into detail about all that. My question is about something I saw yesterday, noticed about 4 (could be more) eggs buried under moss in her enclosure. Just wondering about the eggs and if I should do anything? Because there's no male present so I assume they just lay eggs every once in a while because they can?

Thanks, Dan

ANSWER: Yup, reptiles lay eggs almost like chickens, and I have found that for some dumb reason, females that suddenly have the foods and supplements their own bodies need to heal, suddenly waste it making eggs!  I've had that happen with every rescue girl I've taken in!  When you can, get the eggs out before they go bad, give them a freeze and throw them out.

QUESTION: ok great, thank for the help. It won't upset her by taking the eggs away from her?

Answer
In the wild, they normally walk away after a meal and a good watch for any predator  that may have seen what they were doing.  When my girls are ready to lay, I give them a separate nesting box so while they are busy burrowing and nesting, I clean her cage and start a bath.  When she is done, she is taken out, given a nice bath, and placed back in her enclosure with a big meal.  After that, I go and gather the eggs.
