Question
hello..
I went to the pet store today because i thought my light in my lizard tank needed to be replaced. it is a 125W solar glo by exo-terra.. the guy tested my bulb & said it was working properly & maybe i should replace mylight fixture.. my problem is that i bought a new r-zilla reflector dome that he suggested & when i got home i put the same bulb in & it starting flickering like a strob light.. is there any possibility that it is the sockets in my apartment that are causing this problem? im confused..

Answer
First, the solar-glo is a mercury vapor bulb and even if it still lit normally, if it's over 6 months old, unless someone has a proper UVB meter, has to be changed anyway.  UVB does degrade over time and at 6 months, no useable UVB is emitted anymore.  I highly doubt that the salesperson used a meter, or even had one.
The flickering can come from the bulb.  The reflector dome should be fine.  As for the electric in your apartment...only the super of your building can answer that.
