QuestionHi I not to long ago acquired a Senegal chameleon. I had him in a 30 gallon tank with frog moss and fake leaves and the whole 9 yards, I made she his tank was very moist each day and made sure to feed him his crickets. But just today he started opening his mouth like to take a huge breath as if he was having trouble breathing so do you know why he would be doing that? I did build him a custom inclosure today with a screened front on it then just OSB boards on the sides and I took the frog moss and threw it in the trash because for some reason it got moldy so do you think maybe I kept it to wet in there and the mold hurt his lungs?
AnswerWell, it sounds like it is probably a heating issue and that you may have too much humidity. I would invest in a hygrometer and a thermometer. I would first of all make sure the basking spot is at 90 degrees and the keep the humidity at 75%. I am guessing there is not enough heat. Mold is definitely an indicator of too much moisture. I hope this helps.
