Question
Hi Katie
I just bought a cashmere lop because, when I went for my
regular browse round the pet shop, I saw him and fell in love. He
is 10wks old, just a baby, and I have no idea about bunnies.  I do
have two kids though so I'm kind of letting my maternal instincts
guide me at the mo.  We have him in a huge hutch 5ft by 2ft, so
I'm sure he has plenty room,
What I am concerned about is feeding... I have been giving him
a handful of dry feed, a handful of hay and throughout the day,
bits of apple, carrot, sugar snap peas and red pepper, does that
sound okay? Is it possible to overfeed him?
Secondly.... how much contact or playtime is advised? Luckily he
has been well handled in the pet shop so he is used to that.  We
have him out for about an hour in the morning and an hour after
evening meal.
Finally...(for now!) As he is long haired, I know I have to groom
him.  But the little darling won't sit still for longer than
10seconds.  Will he probably calm down with age? In the
meantime, if he has matted bits (which he does, from the pet
shop care) should I cut them out?
I really want to give this little rabbit, called Rabbie Buns (yes,
we're scottish!)  a happy life, but I am a bit worried that I'll do it
all wrong, having never had a pet, that's if you don't count kids
as pets! (joke, before you inform the authorities!!!!)
The love for him is there, please help with the rest!!!

Yours mucho thanko

Claire

Answer
Hi Claire,
I'm very sorry about the delay, I sent a reply but obviously it never got to you. What you're feeding him sounds great! It is possible to over feed but follow instructions on packets of dried food and you'll be fine, try to only give him a few bits of fresh everyday as they have very delicate digestive systems.
Rabbits that liv on their own need lots of attention, 2 hours a day is sufficient but not really enough to keep him occupied. He needs daily excersise in a big run and a few toys to play with. Tubes, balls, hidey holes etc.
I think it would be best for you to cut out the matted bits, try as hard as you can to keep him still as it is very important to groom him, he will eventually get used to it.
I think youre going to be a great mum! Anymore questions and i will be happy to help. Sorry again for the delay.
