lipoma

Question
My rabbit is 6 and has a few lipomas on both sides of his shoulders. I have
noticed that some have turned hard and are attaching to his bones so they don't
move around freely. Could this be a sign of cancer?

Answer
Dear Leigh Ann,

A lipoma should neither turn hard, nor be attached to underlying muscle or bone.  What you are feeling could be sarcomas, locally aggressive forms of cancer.  But without a biopsy and histopathology on the lumps, there's no way to know for sure.

I would recommend you get your bunny to a good, experienced rabbit vet ASAP:

who can remove one of the lumps and send it to a lab for positive ID.  Then you'll know what the next step to take--if any--will be.

I hope this helps.
