Question
hi,
i have just come back from a six week holiday and had put my rabbit in a pet store that looked after animals during the holidays but they didn't take the animals out of their cages. when i got back she has been acting differently: she was very shaky when she first go back and she is a lot more aggressive and bit my brother when he put his hand in her cage. she has also become a lot bigger then she was before. could these be sighs of pregnancy or could this be a phantom pregnancy?

Answer
Hmmm, the bigger size does make one wonder.

If she is pregnant, I wouldn't think it'd be too much longer before you know for sure.  Rabbits gestate for about a month.  And they will build a nest shortly before it's time to give birth.

A vet should be able to tell for sure.  Because it is indeed possible that this could be a phantom pregnancy.  If an intact female is near intact males, this can trigger her hormones and she may start acting like she's pregnant.

It is also possible that being away from you and in a strange place may have stressed her out.  And she may be acting out from that.

But, if you want to know for sure if she is pregnant, you can wait it out, or have a vet take a look.

If she is indeed pregnant, here are some site with advice:
