Question
Hello Folks,

I have not used 'Kitty Litter' in my rabbit's litter box for a long time. I have been using wood chips. Recently I have purchased litter, and I have noticed one of my rabbits munching in the box. He was munching for a while before I deverted his attention to an apple, so I do not think that he was simply eating his soft pellets.

Should I just donate the rest of this litter to a cat owner?

Do I have to run to the vet again now?

My Smoke Pearl Cashmere Lop seems to have a sensitive digestive system.

Thank you,
Kenny

Answer
It depends on what litter you are using.  If you are using a newspaper-based litter, such as Yesterday's News, or a pine-based one, such as Feline Pine, the rabbit should be ok.

If you are using clumping cat litter, then yes, I would take him to a vet, clumping cat litter has been known to cause issues.

You can use non-clumping cat litter with your rabbit, if you cover it up with another type of litter such as Yesterday's News, or pile hay over it so he will eat the hay instead.

If it is clumping cat litter, then yes, I would give it to someone with a cat.
