Question
I have just got an 8 week old rabbit, I would like to keep it in the house but because of the circumstances i have to keep it in my balcony outside. Even though when im in the house id bring it in as i am going to train it to do the loo in a litter box. I was wondering if it would be ok in the cold, and also i live quite near to Edinburgh castle and i was wondering would it be ok when the fireworks start going off or could this kill my bunny with fright as its still a little shy. Iv only had him for 3 days?

Answer
Dear Dayna,

When it's cold, the bunny will need a warm refuge away from the wind.  A secure house with warm water bottles, soft, dry 100% cotton bedding and lots of insulation is imperative, if you cannot bring him inside.

Heat is of even greater concern.  When the temperature is higher than about 78 Farenheit, he needs to be inside where it's cool, or provided with frozen water bottles that will cool his little house.  Heat stroke is deadly, and rabbits are very sensitive to heat.

Rabbits often don't react to fireworks with panic, the way a dog often does.  But if the noise is very close, then I would bring him indoors for the duration of the show, so as not to take any chances.
