Question
I have 2 questions,1, I have a lionhead bunny who is not of show quality and color, he is a chinchilla color. He is 9 months old. He has lost most of this fluffy coat a couple of months ago, but I read that rabbits, molt every 3 months and that this is normal. But where the fur has come out, the undercoat, or remaining fur, is pure black and not grey with white tips like it was before (this is face only). Do you think this means his face will turn black after this length of time? The reast of his body seems to remain the grey with white tips. I'm sorry if this is a silly question, this is my 1st bunny and I am learning!
My second question is that I have him in a cage with a guinea pig, and they are adorable together. They seem to really get along and enjoy each other. Here is the delimma, I have them inside. A wire bottom cage seems uncomfortable for the pig, she is an adult, but very very small. Right now they are in a large cage with litter on the bottom, I don't love this either. Have you encountered many pig/bunny couples?  : )  Any sugestions as to how others cage them?
Thank you so much for your time.
Cheryl

Answer
Some bunnies seem to change color with every molt.  I would guess that the rest of the fur will stay same color, but the black may stay black.  Then again, it could all change.  I can't be more definite because he will likely change again!

You don't want guinea pigs on a wire floor, they can get a condition called bumblefoot which is very painful.

You might check out http://www.guineapigcages.com/ with very little adaptation these will work for rabbits also.  You can always use Carefresh on the floor of the cage, that seems to work well.  I don't know how all people with pairs like this do, but this seems to be fairly common.
