Poorly bunny

Question
Hello
My lop-ear rabbit is three years old and has always been a healthy and friendly rabbit. However, in the last week she has become lethargic and lost weight. Today I also noticed that her genitals are swollen and she has been pulling out her fur! As soon as I noticed this, I separated her from her hutch mate and housed her in a separate hutch indoors.
Please help me, I am so worried as I have heard that swollen genitals are a symptom of 'myxi'.
Thanks very much

Answer
hello katherine

im afraid to say that you are right, swollen genitals are a sympton of myximotosis. however it can also be other meanings as well. have a look at your bunnies eyes mouth and ears, if they are also sore and swollen looking then it is a very very strong possibility that it can be myxi. i have a couple of rabbits who have died from myxi and it is the hardest thing i have ever been through as the longer it is left the more suffering caused. from then on i have made sure all my bunnies have their twice yearly vaccinations. i would take her to the vet asap so they can have a look at her and see if it is myxi or not, you definalty did the right thing is seperating your bunnies however if it is myxi then there could still be the flea on your other bunny, i would give your bunny a bath to get rid of it, as this is how i lost two bunnies at once, one caught myxi i then seperated them emidiatley but the flea must have still been on him as he had to be put to sleep 3 days later :-(

i hope its not myxi and that she will be ok, good luck
