Strange hair loss

Question
We recently adopted two bunnies.  Today, I noticed a spot on the girls back, almost directly behind her ears, where she has lost her hair.  I'm unsure if she's sick and needs to see a vet or if there's a simpler answer.  We're first time rabbit owners.

Thanks!

Answer
Dear Hillary,

Many bunnies have thinner hair in this area, especially if they're shedding.  But if it's really bald, and if there's any sign of flaky skin, then she could have mites.  Please read:

and find a good vet here who can prescribe appropriate, rabbit-safe treatment, such as Revolution (selamectin) if it's mites.  DO NOT use Frontline (fipronil), as it's deadly to rabbits.

Hope this helps.
