Breeding accident

OK- Please don't laugh- We had a mishap and now have 9 baby bunnies.  The buck and the doe are in the same very large hutch that is devided in 1/2 by a coated chicken wire type of fencing.   I've been told that rabbits can breed through fencing. I thought I knew where babies came from but we have a mystery on on hands... Can Rabbits breed through a fence?  The babies look just like the the buck and the doe so paternity isnt in question.

It depends on how, um, desperate they are to get together, and obviously they were able to do it.  Rabbits only take 30 seconds to mate, so it's not like they were going to be there a while.

You might consider spacing the fencing, have two separate rows of it that are several inches apart so that they have no way of getting to each other.

Or, optionally, have him neutered.

Be aware that rabbits can get pregnant again immediately after having babies, so hopefully you don't get another surprise in 30 days.
