Question
Hi, I just got a male, dwarf rabbit. I have done research and have found that dwarf rabbits are supposed to be able to befriend other pets.  i have had a male chinchilla for about two years.  Would it be safe to put them together?  Thank you

Answer
I would not recommend housing any species with rabbits except than other rabbits, and then only if the rabbits are spayed and/or neutered. For one thing, each species will need different dietary requirements, and they might eat each other's food. They may fight, too.

If you are talking about having them play together outside of the cage, it may work. I cannot say for sure on how chinchillas react to other animals, since I have never had chinchillas. Rabbits can get along with other species during playtime outside of the cage. I have seen rabbits that were friends with guinea pigs, cats, and dogs. Cats and dogs would be a rare case, and I would not advise trying it, simply because cats and dogs are predatory animals that naturally prey on rabbits. Never leave a rabbit with another animal species unsupervised, though. That way, if anything does happen, you can step in.
