QuestionMy friend recently got an adult rabbit from someone who no longer wanted it. She noticed a small sore on the rabbits neck but didn't think it was serious. Now, after about 2 weeks, the rabbit has about five of these sores. Two on the front of the neck and three on his sides. I will try to describe them the best I can. Each sore is a bald spot about the size of a quarter with a large protruding sore in the center. The ones that have been broken open have pus coming out. Do you have any idea what it could be? They can't afford a large vet bill so I thought I would ask you first.
Thank you,
Michelle
AnswerDear Michelle,
Without seeing the bunny, I cannot know for sure. But these sound like abscesses, and they need to be seen and treated by a good rabbit vet:

The bunny must have been getting very poor care in its former home, so I hope your friend will be able to get the bunny to a good vet for proper care. Please also read:

as the bunny will probably need to be put on antibiotics to get well quickly.
I hope this helps.
