Question
Hi my girlfriend and I have 2 german lop rabbits, poppy and lily
Over ther last week lily has changed from a rabbit who loves to run around and eat her greens and pellets to totally the opposite
She struggles to hop around now and looks very weak. She won't eat her pellets and only just
Manages to eat her greens. She is having very runny poos and is looking
Like she is ready to pass away and her belly is constantly rumbling

She is just over 2 years old

We have taken her to the vet and have been given a compound to feed her but she doesn't seem stronger

We don't know what to do and r very worried about her

Answer
Hi Warren. I am not a vet and have very limited medical knowledge, however I will try to help if I can. The first thing I suggest that you do is to get some hay for your bunny and see if she will eat that. Often rabbits will eat hay when they won't eat anything else. Is she drinking water? Try the hay and a few rolled oats, preferable the old fashioned type. Give her about a tablespoon of oats. If she won't eat that you have major problems and need to contact a different vet. Most vets don't really know much about rabbits and you should call around and ask questions to find one that does. There is a virus going around right now that is causing intestinal problems and diahrrea, I know some people are not going to go to anymore shows this fall and winter for fear that their rabbits will get it and they will loose them. I don't know if your rabbit could have gotten this virus or not. If I can find out any more about this or anything else that may be of help, I will contact you again. But, Please call around and find a good vet.                                                                                              Hi again Warren. I see that you have already read my previous answer so I hope I can catch you again this evening. The following site will have some info on it that you might want to read. I truely believe this is the problem that your bunny is having.    http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html     I hope this answers some of your questions and emphisizes the importance of finding a good vet.  Please let me know how this turns out.  Pat
