discharge from my rabbits bottom

Question
My boy bunny Murray has always been a lazy sod when it comes to cleaning
himself, and is very used to get his bum put under the tap to clean him
up.
Now ive noticed he has this thick like discharge, which I can only
describe as looking like soft cheese, around his nether regions, I keep
cleaning it off, but it comes back every few days, its not loads, but his
bits can get somewhat stuck together with it from time to time.  Its not a
daily thing, just something I have to clean up once a week. My other bunny
Dangerous gets it once in a while and not as bad, but then I never have
any issues with her being dirt down there.
Theyre indoors on shavings and carefresh and have both been neutered, he
is 4 and she is 2.
Any ideas what it might be, or is it just a bunny thing and I have to be a
good mummy and clean it up for them?

Answer
I might want to have a rabbit-knowledgeable vet check it out.  Rabbit pus is the consistency you describe, and if there's an infection you would want to get that cleared up before it gets worse.

It could also be the scent glands, and yes, those get infected too.

If it isn't either of those, you can check out http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html#entero and http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html#abs to see if either of those are of assistance.

I don't think it's normal, so, if you can get it cleared up Murray and you will both be happier.
