6-8 weeks rabbit trying to mate

Question
hi samantha,
i bought 2 rabbits from a breeder 2 weeks ago
1 a dwarf lop (pinky) the other a mini lop (Brain), both pinky and brain are male (thats what the breeder said)
apparently the breeder said pinky is 5 weeks and brain is 7 weeks when i got them.
about an hour ago while i let them both out of their hutch pinky started to circle around brain and started to mate, he tried from the back n then from the front circling around n around.
I watch closely for 5-10mins couldn't bare it any more and seperated them.
my question is "is this normal? or 1 of my rabbit is a female? is it normal at this age? or since they're both male they need to release their sexual fustration? or is there such thing as homosexual rabbit"

Thanks

Darith

Answer
Hi,
With these two not being litter mates, more than likely they were just fighting. At this age they start thier curiosity of breeding and also try to establish dominance. It is also possible that one is a female, and if the older one is the male, he is probably coming toward sexual maturity and trying to breed her.

This website shows what both sexes look like with pictures, and also gives directions on how to do it. Sometimes young males try to breed each other, but no this is not homosexuality. Just confused. LOL.
You should keep them separated until you get sexes straightened out. If you want them to live in the same pen you may have to spay/neuter them both.
