How Much Water

Question
I have an 8 week old Mini lop. How much water should he be drinking a day appox? Thank you

Answer
Hi Peter,

to be honest there is no set amount.  If he is eating a lot of hay, he'll need more water than if he wasn't.  If he exercises a lot, he'll need more water.  If it's hotter out, he'll need more water.  There really is no right amount other than what he feels he needs to drink.

Now, if his output is not matching his input, or if he is drinking a lot but seems not to have any energy or lethargic, or is drinking a lot but not eating very much anymore, these could be warning signs he has a medical problem that you need to get him in to a vet to examine him, specifically his kidneys or liver or gi tract.

If you do not yet have a good rabbit vet, go to:

www.rabbit.org/vets

and find a House Rabbit Society-recommended vet, and look under their index of vets, they break it down by state.

Otherwise he is just drinking what he needs to keep himself hydrated and have enough water to keep his gi tract in good shape.
