dwarf rabbit mom

Question
i breed dwarf rabbits for the Country Max store in our area. I have 3 does but only breed them 3x's a year - i always breed at least 2 at a time, good thing i did because my one doe never pulled hair for her nest - she had 3 babies and just stood over them.- after 10 hours one died so i removed the 2 remaining and put them in with my other nursing mom who has 5 of her own 5 days older then the other 2.  she immediately took care of the orphans - why do you think the first mom didn't pull hair or behave as she has for her past 3 previous litters?  because the 5 babies are 5 days older i have to keep them several inches away from the 2 smaller ones in fear they may get squished! happy to say all are fine - one litter born on the 8th of November and the 2 were born on the 12.  I would in the future still like to breed my one blue eyed female that didn't build a nest because her babies are beautiful but am afraid of what might happen - do you think this is a fluke thing?

Answer
Hi Shelly,
I think she sounds like she wasn't prepared for this litter for some reason.  If she was provided with the necessary materials to make a nest, this shouldn't have happened.  I would breed her again in a month..with her nest box ect provided for her.  I think she would have been ok to stay with the other 2 because she must have fed them in that 10 hour time span otherwise they would have also died.
Anyways as long as the other mom keeps feeding them, they'll be fine.  Good job!
 take care,Elizabeth
