QuestionHello, I have had rabbits for about 4 years now and this year I have just
purchased a Holland lop rabbit. He is about 4 months old now. He was just
fine a week ago. but now he wount eat his rabbit food at all. He will manage
to
eat yogurt chips and drink water though. I took him to the vet and the vet
gave us some meds to give to the rabbit. But last night was the problem. I
was holding the rabbit and all of a sudden the rabbit jumped form the couch
and ran to the TV center and ran straight into it like it didn't even see it. then
i
picked it up and it layed back and opened its mouth and then acted like a
seizure. I don't know what caused this but after i out him back down in his
cage he started grinding his teeth really hard. I though he was going to die
from that point. but this morning he was alive and moving. he ate some
yogurt chips and a half of apple but other than that he was still scared. I think
he may have a disease called Gastrointestinal Stasis but im not really sure. I
have had another rabbit before this suffer from this before and i clearly don't
know what to do. Please help me if you can. she is only 1 pound and a
Holland lop buck. Thanks for your time. and thanks in advance. -Danielle

AnswerDear Danielle,
Holland Lop rabbits are very prone to dental problems that can cause difficulty for them when they try to eat/drink normally. Please read this:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/dental.html
and then find an experienced rabbit vet who can check his teeth deep in the back of the mouth for spurs or other problems:
www.rabbit.org/vets
If he is suffering from ileus (GI stasis), then you must read this immediately:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html
and share this with your vet:

This article might also be helpful:

Please find a good rabbit vet immediately and get proper care for your bunny.
I hope this helps get you started.
