Rabbit Pregnant????

Question
Well to update you on my sweet Girlie---I left her in the cage for another night or 2 and on Wednesday she gave birth to 8 babies.  By the time I got home from work and noticed the babies 3 had already died.  Since she didn't make a nest and it was chilly outside the straw was just not enough to keep them warm.  they were freezing.  so all I had to kinda resemble fur was a feather pillow. so I put some in a nest box and put a piece of soft material over it -warmed the babies in my hands and put them in the nest box with a little bit of feathers on top of them and set it in the cage.  She was sitting on them-actually stepping on them and they were crying out.  I tried to get her to nurse them I held girlie and even tried to put her in a trance and the babies and girlie just wouldn't have it.  I thought it may because I was out there and she was stressed so I decided to go inside and wait a while and see what happend-well when I went out later on she had scattered the nest.  The kits were freezing again. I gathered the babies up and decided that this wasn't going to work.  Since I have one other mom rabbit (inside the house) with 4 babies about 2-3 wks old I would try to let her see if she would take care of them.  2 more have died since and I am not sure if she is feeding them or not.  I did buy some kitten replacement formula and last night I tried to get them to take some.  Not very successful but they ate a little.  I did the cotton ball thing to get them to pee and 2 did.  I decided that was the best I knew what to do and put them back in with the serogent mom and left them alone.  This morning I checked on them and the 3 kits were still alive.  They don't look very full but they were alive.

In the nest box it looks like they have been peeing and pooping and they are still alive and their bellies aren't really sunken in,  do you think that the new mom is taking care of them?  Also, does she have enough milk to feed them and whatever her current babies need?

Thanks

-----Question-----
I have 2 free range bunnies-outside-lately my doe has been acting funny-and she is getting huge.  I know that she is part flemish giant but she has to be about 20lbs or so.  Her belly is so big.  Anyways she hasn't been moving around as easily as she usually does and she is grunting and not wanting my male bun to mess with her.  last night it was so bad I thought she may be not feeling well.  So I grabed her and held her until she calmed down and then put her in one of the cages for the night.  well this morning I notices that there was blood under the cage and some on the straw inside.  Also, I realized on my coat there was some blood.  This would be her first litter but I am not sure she is pregnant or not.  she hasn't pulled fur and she is eating well and I haven't noticed her carring around any straw.  I don't have the money right now to take her to the vet and I thought that she may just be pregnant?  What do you think?  Oh yeah I have tried feeling for babies but didn't feel anything and I actually used a stethoscope to see if I could hear and heart beats or anything with not luck.  I will check on her tonight a little better.  I have checked on how exactly to check for babies and will try that again tonight.  If you have any ideas please let me know.
Thanks
Carla

Well... Weight wise it is hard to tell if she is pregnant. Flemish Giants have to weigh at least 16lbs... 20lbs is a small flemish. Since she is a cross she likly does weigh 20lbs not pregnant. You could fill the bottom of her cage with hay, and provide her a nesting box to see if she will have any babies. If you saw blood, then she may have lost her litter, which is not uncommon with rabbits and  thier first babies. Good luck with the mom, and hopefully babies.

Answer

The babies are younger and less strong than the other babies so they are not getting as much milk. I would take the two week ones out for a little while let the others nurse, and put them back. The next time mom nurses the stronger older ones will nurse, and the others will still have a chance to nurse. You will not need to wipe them anymore, because the foster mom will clean them just as her own. With the incresed number of babies, she will eat and drink more, but she will produce more milk too. Hopefully Things will work out with them and you will have healthy remaining babies.
