My rabitts head

Question
My rabbit is tilting his head to one side.  I read about head tilt but wonder if it si something else.  He eats well and moves around a lot - he is outside now and eating grass and moving very well.  I think he may have been hurt when I was taking him in last week when it was cold out.  he moves around freely outside and doesn't run away.  he is a great rabbit and I want to know what to do (I'm 10).  He seems to get better when he is outside and it is nice out now so I'm hoping that helps.

Answer
Hi Tiffany,

If he had wry-neck (head tilt) his neck would do more than just tilt.  It usually will twist pretty bad.  If you notice that he doesn't seem to want to eat or just looks bad in general you need to get him to a vet right away.

You also need to check out his ears.  Look for any sign of ear mites.  If it is a really bad case you might be able to see the actual mites.  You might also see some crusty flaky looking skin.  Ear mites can be treated at home with olive oil or mineral oil.  I don't know the exact dose because I treat my rabbits with an actual drug instead of natural medicines.

My best suggestion to you is that if you think something is wrong with your little guy that you get him to the vet as soon as you can.  If you don't know a vet in your area you can look for one here:

Rabbits should have a "wellness" check-up once a year anyway.  So it doesn't hurt to find a good vet in your region and get acquainted with them.  Then if you do have a "true" emergency you don't have to scramble trying to find one.

If you need more help please let me know.
